Anyway, she’s such a wonderful character for deaf representation.Responsible for managing all aspects of a specific department(s) within the restaurant including the selection, development and performance management of restaurant Team Members, optimizing profits and increasing sales. Also, her shield is not something we can expect as a deadly weapon! We can understand what she expresses for many things without any translation. We know she is both a big hugger and a badass armored warrior with a big shield. Through that, she’s already her own character with a personality and fighting style. Thankfully, It is not unusual in the fantasy world. I mean, It is well presented without any fussy detail like a tragedy. Repeat, she’s a freaking general for the royal! Importantly, her deafness is not a central attention. Seriously, we finally have a 3D deaf character in 2018!! Amaya the deaf general is not a guest character. Not to mention it can be expensive or time-consuming. Animating sign language in either 3D or 2D is so difficult. Seriously, it is something we don’t see every day. I could go on with the list, but let’s come back with the Dragon Prince. Yes, I’m aware of the Little Mermaid episode with a deaf mermaid too. However, there are very few 2D animated features in the world like Gangsta and A Silent Voice. Oh wait, is the show the first 3D animated TV series with a deaf character and sign language?! From my research, I didn’t find anything like that. Anyway, I can say ASL is so accurate in the show. Also the “what” sign with a twisted W to T, which was not necessary. At least, I feel so proud of reading so many of Amaya’s signs. Especially as a deaf person! Honestly, the frame rate is a bit annoying for reading ASL. Wow, I love the cartoon a lot! Oh gosh, I’m so excited for the deaf character and ASL in the fantasy world with elves and magic. I just finished watching the Dragon Prince.
